I painted this piece in the spring and summer of 2025 during my Barn Residency in Cleveland, Ohio. The palette, rooted in earthy neutrals and softened light, was inspired by my surroundings in the barn, a space alive with texture, history, and growth.
The scene captures a meadow where horses graze beneath a glowing sky. In the distance, the mountains rise as a symbol of my longing for my old life in the wide open West, while at the same time they carry my gratitude for being grounded here at home, embraced by the spirit of this space. Broad, gestural brushstrokes bring movement to the grasses, while the horizon shifts between deep shadow and warm color.
This painting holds the duality of dreaming and belonging, carrying the hum of summer and the connection between land, animal, and sky.
